Sumit is Chief Executive Officer, ST Telemedia Global Data Centres India (STT GDC India). He has been the foundation of STT GDC India and has grown the Indian business operations of the company from scratch.
Under Sumit’s watch, in a short span of time, STT GDC India has emerged not just as a leader but as an innovator in the Indian data centre space. With 33 percent of revenue market share, STT GDC India manages the largest pan-Indian data centre floor area and IT load, delivering more than 200 MW of IT load via its carrier-neutral and carrier-dense facilities across nine key cities in India.
Sumit played a pivotal role during the transition of Tata Communications Data Centers Pvt Ltd into STT GDC India and ensured the utmost synergies in terms of vision and values between the two companies. According to Sumit, this is going to be the way forward for the data centre industry- It is an ecosystem that will thrive through effective Collaboration between the various stakeholders including Colocation service providers, ISPs, Real Estate Developers, Equipment and manpower suppliers as well as the customers; leveraging on each other’s strengths rather than building your own capabilities from scratch.
This industry being quite high on consuming resources, he is a firm believer in massive greening of the Datacenters in the years to come. With his leadership, STT feels confident that the company will be able to achieve sustainability goals i.e. Carbon-neutral data centers by 2030.
Sumit has been at the forefront of innovation in the regional data centre market for close to three decades and has held leadership positions in organizations including Cisco, Microsoft, and Brocade. Before joining STT GDC India, Sumit served as Director- Solutions Sales at Microsoft responsible for driving the solutions sales for Microsoft’s Cloud business and Application platform. At Cisco, Sumit was responsible for driving the overall data centre solutions business in India.
Sumit holds a Master’s degree in Management from XLRI, graduating with distinction with concentrations in international business and strategic management. He also holds a Bachelor of Engineering in electronics and communications from Gulbarga University.
